Avior Executive Search Thoughts, Comments, Most Pressing Search Assignments, and Happenings

As we come to the end of April, we celebrate the arrival of spring, Easter, Passover and the return of America’s pastime, baseball.

In previous newsletters, I have focused on reporting activities within the wealth management industry. More specifically, I talked about hiring trends and the general employment tendencies my staff and I see monthly.

This newsletter will indeed address another current trend our firm has been experiencing; while it is one that is quite troubling, it undoubtedly affects all individuals in our marketplace. Regardless of your corporate position, be it employer, employee or even search firm, the subject of my message holds ramifications for us all. This month’s topic is transparency in the interview process.

Lately, my staff and I have been noticing some disturbing behaviors from candidates as well as clients.
Since I pride myself on being completely honest and transparent, I want to share my thoughts and make this simple statement: It is NEVER ok to lie, mislead or misrepresent your intentions during the interview process. Recently, I have had several experiences wherein individuals, whether they are candidates or potential employers, behave with a level of deception that is entirely unacceptable. Let me repeat my prior statement: Candidates – it is NEVER ok to string along a firm when you clearly have no intention of joining them. Clients – it is NEVER ok to string along a candidate when you clearly have no intention of hiring them. The most egregious situation of all entails the client or candidate who makes/accepts an offer and then goes silent, never to be heard from again. This is extremely unprofessional and unforgivable. Let’s all try and remember what we were taught as children – honesty is the best policy. Giving anything less than the truth to those with whom you do business is reprehensible.

Over the past month at Avior, we have experienced an obscene number of examples of these deceptive practices. I wanted to share this with all of you to let you know that we will not tolerate this behavior from any client or candidate. In fact, we have cut all ties with the individuals in question. Please be assured that my staff and I will always treat our clients and candidates with the utmost respect; we expect the same in return which we feel is paramount for a healthy, transparent relationship. Marcus Aurelius once said, “If it is not right do not do it: if it is not true do not say it”. At Avior, we will continue to do what is right and be 100% truthful while doing so.

As always, I welcome your feedback. We genuinely look forward to speaking with you about how we can help your firm or career grow as well as provide any other guidance you may need.
