Currently, college basketball in the U.S. has its annual tournament, which is referred to as March Madness. It appears that the global banking industry has stolen this saying, demonstrating madness of its own. In fact, as I was writing this newsletter on Sunday, March 19th, I received the news about UBS “acquiring” Credit Suisse. Let’s be honest; this was no acquisition but rather a much-needed save. According to UBS chairman Colm Kelleher, “This acquisition is attractive for UBS shareholders but let us be clear, as far as Credit Suisse is concerned, this is an emergency rescue”.

At the forefront of most of our concerns is the recent turmoil surrounding Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and the bailout by a number of prominent banks aiding First Republic in staving off collapse. Wow, what a week. For those of us who have been in the workplace long enough to remember, it recalls the great banking collapse in 2008 as well as the earlier savings and loan bailout in the 1980’s. History indeed has a way of repeating itself.

What does this current situation mean for those who wonder, “Will my firm be next?” I can tell you that there will be more fallout to come; however, when one door closes another one opens. The phone calls and emails I have been receiving from managing directors, founders and presidents looking at this as a genuine opportunity to acquire talent have been non-stop, demonstrating that growth and survival are alive and well. While from the outside it might seem unfair that the big keep getting bigger (e.g., UBS acquiring given Credit Suisse for relatively nothing), in business, as in life, it’s all about survival of the fittest.

Senior Wealth Management Relationship Manager

  • Responsible for establishing new business relationships with high-net worth and ultrahigh networth individuals, and maintenance of these relationships. Offer services to include, but not limited to, investment management, portfolio management, and investment banking.
  • Must have a personal minimum portfolio of 200M+ which they have personally built.
  • Proven track record within the South Florida business & HNW community with strong centers of influence (COI’s) to build own book of business.
